Thailand 2015

My first backpacking trip

The unkown calls for me, so spontaneously I decide to backpack Thailand on my own for some time.
Within two weeks I booked flights, got all the vaccinations and bought all the stuff I needed.
Being the first time alone in a foreign country this trip enlarges my self-confidence to get along by my own.

I find my self in the most beautiful nature Ive ever been to
fall in love with Scuba Diving, hiking the wild jungle
and fear Death in a small disaster at the sudden end…

Bangkok

After 11 hours in plane I find myself in the most busy crowded city Ive ever been to.
Its super hot and the smells of sewage, streetfood and trash mix with the enormous amount of traffic exhausts here.

So the next day Im heading for the quiet calm areas of Bangkok to explore the many beautiful temples around.

Koh Tao

With the rising sun I arrive at Koh Tao after 16 hours of travelling south by bus and ferry.
After getting some sleep I roam around the bay right in front of the Diving Resort I stay in.

Im in paradise…

Here I live a very chilled life while I make my PADI Diver with a group of other young backpacker.
Immediatly I fall in love with the quiet peace below the surface!
Its pure freedom to swim in any direction of the endless blue and get to see colorful life around every corner…

Khao Sok

After finishing the Scuba Diving Course I leave the beautiful island behind to head to the Khao Sok National Park.
This gigantic lake in the middle of mountainous jungle is one of the greatest places Ive ever been to!

With a group of other travellers I stay in floating bamboo bungalows in the middle of the wilderness for a few days.
A Thai named Jaja guides us through the jungle with his machete on the day
and shows us the jungle waking up from his selfmade Longtail-Boat early in the morning.
We explore caves all around the mountains and refresh in the beautiful lake

Krabi

A minivan packed with 10-20 other backpackers hopping on and of the bus drives me south to Krabi.
The big city seems to be very poor and everybody trys to sell something to the tourists.

A young buy with a motorcycle drives me to the outer temple area,
where Im chilling with curious monkeys before I leave the town the next morning.

The sudden End

I continue my journey to a small lonley island two hours south called Koh Siboya.
Near the beach in the shade of the jungle are a few huts and not much people around,
so Im chilling in a hammock reading Game of Thrones.

In the afternoon I explore the island with my camera, look around all the crabs and flotsam along the beach
and found a can stuck in the sand with some crabs in it.
I tried pulling out the mysterious object, but suddenly it turns out to be glass as the jar shatterd.

My first reaction was to lough out loud about my stupid curiousity,
then I realised what happend:

I walked hours through the jungle and along the beach
There is absolutly nobody around
I cut off a small piece of my finger
and loose blood faster and faster

I fear passing out, so I sit down and try to stop the bleeding with a hanky
but without many sucsess.

I dont want to die yet!
So I get up and step by step walking back
continously repeating in my mind:

You cant pass out!

Finally made it to my bungalow and the saving First Aid Kit.
After calling my Dad (whos a doctor) I decided to move home.
Even if I find a good hospital around here, I still would fear an infection and couldnt go into water.
So I think heading home was still the best descision.

67 hours without much sleep later Im back in Germany, went to hand surgery and finally fell into my own bed.
